FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you from? +

I am based in San Francisco, California, where I've lived for 20+ non-contiguous years. Previously, I've lived in Seattle WA, San Mateo CA, Miami FL, and I'm originally from New York NY.

What do you sound like? +

My voice has been described as warm, comforting, smart, and authoritative -- the voice of sincerity and confident optimism. I'm like a nerdy manager 🤓 or your career mentor who wants to help you succeed, and has knowledge and experience to serve you -- but is also willing to help you 😈 work around the system.

My voice is earthy and toasty like a hot cup of French roast coffee amidst a stand of redwood trees -- grounded, warm, and comforting.

I like 6 syllable words and random walks through the stochastic forest. Cast me for your technical, financial, or service business, or to bring warmth and a personal touch to your otherwise kinda chilly product.

I have a neutral / California accent (no upspeak). I was born in Queens NY and I can still speak in a Queens NY accent on demand. I can also pronounce words correctly in German and a little in French.

What is your prior work experience? +
  • Engineering Executive, Site Reliability Engineering, Privacy/Security Engineering, Robotics: AT&T Labs, eBay, Google, Microsoft.
I've led organizations of 1500+ global technical contributors, and I've been the dude carrying the pager who gets called when the systems are down.
  • Racing Club principal: Flying Husky Racing LLC. A Washington (state) and California-based car club focused on track days, racing, and community.
You recorded 2 commercial spots for a major radio station while in high school? +

Yes, I did an internship at Y100 (WHYI-FM 100.7), a 100,000 watt, Top-40 format radio station serving the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale DMA. I mostly dubbed tapes onto carts, and answered request lines. Once in a while I got to play in the booth, and even recorded a few commercial tags.... Like these:

You were a radio DJ in college? +

Yes, at WVUM-FM 90.5, "The Voice" of the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida. Now a 5,600 watt behemoth compared to the then-365 watt tiny college radio signal. Overnight shifts, spinning records, making cheesy small talk. Get ready for this TBT 1991, complete with 18-year-old-Todd with New York-inflected Floridian voice... sorta painful to listen to now, but they were good times:

With whom have you studied? +

I've taken classes in voice acting / voiceover with Voice One, San Francisco, and Voicetrax, Sausalito. My teachers have included: Sally Clawson, Jim Edgar, Marvin Greene, Bob Bergen, Jeff Howell, Wolfie Trausch, Afi Ekulona, Brent Mukai, Michael Ray Wisely, Julia Norton, Pam Lorence, Gavin Hammon, Sebastien Croteau, Brenna Larsen, Carrie Faverty, Anne Ganguzza, Rebecca Castelli, Shawn Smith, and Rich Talarico.
